  1. From what I saw in the 1600, it seems as if the best runners hang back, then in the last 200 meters or so they make a move to the front and try to hold their place.

  2. That New Zealand guy came out of nowhere in the end! He just picked them off, and he would've had it if that Kenyan hadn't outpushed him. But they all ran really well.
(Raskopf for the win, first comment ever).

  3. I noticed that in the long jump video the guy cycled in thew middle of his jump and also that he jumped really far!! In the sprinting video i noticed that the guy kept his head down when he started.

  4. In the mile I will make sure to run more upright like the runners did. Even when I get tired I will try not to lean too far forward. The runners stayed upright even at the very end and always looked very relaxed.

  5. The video [the mile race] taught me not too necessarily go out too fast. The runners who were most successful were the ones who had enough “kick” at the end of the race to finish strong.

  6. I noticed in the video (mile) that the best runners seem to come out of nowhere, that they sat back and waited until the end to take it. Also, the runners had their backs very straight. When I get tired I usually hunch a little bit, so I'll try not do that. Also, they're strides were bigger than I expected them to be and their arms were moving slightly across their bodies. This shows that it's okay to move them in front of your body a bit when you run.

  7. This video taught me not to go out to fast. The American had the lead early in the race but by the end of the first lap, he had lost it. I'm going to go out strong but I'm going to save my energy for the last 200 or 100.

  8. I saw that the "rabbits", as the announcers called them, that went out fast from the start lost their energy and their lead by the end and the people who paced themselves more efficiently did better.

  9. Hey coach,
Im posting this from the High School Lab. Unfortunately, due to an attempt by the administration to protect us from ourselves, Coach Minzloff's hard work will go unappreciated by me, since youtube videos are blocked. My internet was on the fritz at home, and i figured i would do this during the day. I will watch it later and learn all i can.

  10. In the mile video, the runners’ arms seemed to cross a bit in front of their body while they ran. They all paced themselves until the final 200m and kept their arms low until they reached that point. During the final 200m they pushed all out. Also their hands were loosely relaxed for the whole race.

  11. I noticed that in the sprinting video his hands were very relaxed and they weren't in fists. Also he never brought his head up. In the relay video I saw that they had very clean handoffs but they looked back when they reached for the baton.

  12. I noticed that in the mile video the runners who started slow did better in the race because they saved their energy and paced themselves. The runners also had good form which is something I have to work ok because when I get tired my aIms rise up out of the "gun slinger" form

  13. In the mile race, I noticed that the runners' from was very good throughout the race. When I am running a race, my form gets sloppy towards the end. I will try to have better form in the end of a race. Also, it was only clear who was going to win during the final stretch of the race, and the runners leading in the beginning would fall behind.

  14. I want to work on my approach at the high jump. I noticed how in the video the girl took long strides, but as she got closer to the mat, her strides got quicker and faster. Also I want to work on arching my back when going over the bar.

  15. I just thought it was crazy how fast the limbs on those sprinters were moving. But I could clearly see that they were forceful with all their movements and snapping their legs back and forth with the torso straight up.

I also saw in the high jump that her body was completely curved over the bar, and that there was a big turn on the last step to jump.

  16. I noticed in the beggining how all of the runners made a point of not getting boxed out. I think that it is important to get out near the front, but not too go out too fast so that you die off. I also noticed how all the runners keep their arms low and reset them when they start to come up. All of the runners have insanely long strides which helps them by decreasing the number of steps they need to take.

  17. I noticed in the sprinter videos that as Asafa Powell began the race he did not pump his arms as quick but as the race continued his arm motion kept increasing. also that the sprinters stayed on the their tip toes most of the race and only touched a ground a tiny bit.

  18. I noticed in the sprinting video Asafa Powell kept his head down also he was very concentrated but at the same time also loose. IN the long jump video i noticed he drove his leg extremely high and hard right when he took off and he kept cycling through.

  19. What I notice about Powell’s video was when he takes off his upper body is completely straight including his head, his whole body was extremely relaxed as well. In the long jump I came to realized that he circled both arms and legs in the air and on the landing he twisted his body away from where his foot marking was.

  20. It was a decent race (1600m). I was hoping Alan Webb would push through and finish top 5. I noticed that they also have a pacer for the first half of the race which is helpful. The most important aspect that I need to improve on would be my kick at the end. That alone will knock off valuable seconds for the mile.

  21. this is couri i could not find my main blog name so im posting as anonymous: for the sprint start i realized that the guys both feet lest the ground in the begining... so i might try that tommorow. and for shot put i saw that the number 1 guy was so much smaller then the number 10 guy, i realized that size has little to do with it the technique is what matters. i also so that all had a great follow through and they did not rest the shot on their shoulders.

  22. I noticed in the start video that his hands are off the ground when he starts, and in the sprinting video its clear that every part of the sprinters body is involved in them going as crazy fast as they do.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I noticed that when the high jumper approched the bar they really sprinted up towards it and arched the back really far.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I noticed that in the sprinter videos they start and stay very relaxed. Theuy also have great form.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I noticed how the shotputters let the shot roll off and how they flicked their wrist's. I also noticed how they had someone pace the other runners for the mile. I never knew that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I notice how they were able to use there entire boby to gain momentume to throught the shot farther

    ReplyDelete
  27. That mile race truly illustrates that a race isn't over until it's over. Despite the New Zealander's surge to the front with only 100 meters left, the Kenyan stayed focused and waited for the right moment to begin his finishing kick.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Its better off being in second chasing someone going dow the last 100 then it is to be leading the pack. You pick a spot that you is not to far away for you to strike then you stay their till the last second.

    ReplyDelete
  29. After watching the mile video i see that it is better to hang back and not shot for the front until the last 200 meters and then start your kick to the finish

    ReplyDelete
  30. I noticed that the guy who sprinted to the front in the beginning not only dropped out of the lead but was not able to finish the race. This taught me that I have to pace myself even if there are a few runners ahead of me. Instead I can make that last minute kick about half way through the final lap.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I learned that the block starts for sprinters should be very fluid and keeping your head down is very important in the beginning of the race.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I noticed from watching the Asafa Powell video that he explodes right of the start with his hands and then his legs go. The other video I noticed that the runners all have nice form and constantly are pumping their arms.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I noticed in the mile that the guy in white was all the way in the back most of the race but he has a good kick at the end and got up to the top of the pack by the end of the race. This showed me how important the kick on the final lap is. I will try to improve my kick this season to hopefully get closer to my goal time.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I noticed that the guy who was leading the entire time was passed on the last few strides. I also noticed that their laps got faster as time went on. This showed me that pacing is important because the Kenyan guy who won was pacing himself and had an amazing final kick.
